The Calumet Village Renewal Project will be located on Chicago’s Southside and will spearhead the revitalization of Auburn / Gresham via a significant infusion of public / private capital into this declining neighborhood. The two-phased Village renewal plan will entail the adaptive reuse / conversion of a portion of the former Calumet HS building into 76 affordable rental apartments and the new construction (Phase 2) of approximately 60 for-sale single family, townhome and 2-flat housing units on the adjoining site.
Phase 1 of the renewal plan entails the conversion of the former Calumet HS building, located at 8130 South May Street. The low-rise (3-story) building will contain 76 rental apartments designed to serve the affordable housing needs of low-income renters with preference given to veterans, disabled and Senior citizens to the extent permitted by law. Each of Calumet’s 654 s.f. rental units will feature generous in unit storage space, Energy Star appliances, window treatments, plank flooring and air conditioning. All kitchens and baths will have ceramic tile walls and flooring. All utilities will be individually metered. Calumet will offer secure onsite parking.
